I used to think this was a gem. I've stayed here for 25 years, as have my family and friends, but it's horrible now. The place is filthy, poorly managed, and unfit to stay in. Things are broken, or break right away. There was no air conditioning, which is a real problem in Rome in summer. Management was no help and seemed to use the excellent location to charge people for a bad experience. They take payment before you move in, leaving you trapped without a refund. Stay away. A hostel would be better.

We're staying here now, and the heat in the room is so bad we're sweating and don't think we'll manage to sleep tonight. The hotel advertises free WiFi and gave us a password, but there isn't any connection. When we asked customer service, all they said was, “Unfortunately no.” This place has been awful so far. If you're considering it, stay somewhere else. You'll regret booking here.

I really liked this place and didn't notice the problems mentioned in earlier reviews. The room, reception, and location were all great. WiFi wasn't perfect, but I didn't come to Rome for that. The rooms might feel a little chilly in winter, though if you're from the south and used to no central heating, you'll be comfortable. The shower was great, with hot water, no leaks, and recent renovation. There was a free bar with water and snacks. By the way, the soap, shower gel, and shampoo were in the shower.

The reception staff were sweet and helpful, and the lobby felt relaxed. The hotel is in an ideal spot for exploring the center, and the rooms were a good size. We had three pillows per person, a new mini fridge, and free bottled water. Vintage furniture from the early to mid-1900s gives the place character, and there's a lobby buffet with water, coffee, tea, juice, and sweets throughout the day. The mattresses were good too. Two beds pushed together to make a matrimonial bed is common in Italy, and it worked fine for us. A few practical things need fixing. The toilet leaked, the shower doors wouldn't close and water went everywhere, and the sink tap barely ran. There's no bidet, though there is a shower head beside the toilet for washing. The bathroom was small, which is fine when traveling if everything works. The outlets wouldn't hold plugs properly, so charging was difficult. Doors squeaked and didn't close well, and the bathroom door had no key. I'd return if the price were good, but these issues should be sorted out.

The room we got didn't match the one advertised on booking.com, and the bathroom was covered in black mold. I've seen prisons in better shape.
