Hotel St. Moritz

The location made everything easy, with buses and taxis nearby, along with restaurants and grocery shops. Try la tavernia de monti. My room was quiet, clean, and comfortable, and the air conditioning worked well without being noisy. Breakfast was very good, with familiar dishes as well as tasty local specialties. The team were polite, always smiling, and quick to help with things like booking a taxi or arranging an early departure. They speak lots of languages, so it was easy to make myself understood. Thanks for everything, we'll be back!

The price is ridiculous for what's on offer. The shower swings between scalding and freezing, and the temperature seems to change by itself. The rooms look nothing like the pictures online, and breakfast was a disgrace for Italy. Calling this a three-star hotel is misleading; at best, it's a low-quality hostel. You fooled me once. It won't happen again.

There was noisy construction every day, and it woke us up each time. Our room and shower were both tiny, and the front desk was as unhelpful as they could be. Breakfast was bleak, with only coffee offered during the service. They shut it as early as they could, always before the posted closing time. They also wouldn't let a friend we'd met in Rome come upstairs to spend time with us in the room. Book somewhere else if you can.

The staff were great. On both mornings when we had early booked trips to Pompeii and The Vatican, they put together breakfast packages for us. I'd happily stay here again; the price and location are hard to beat. It's easy to miss the hotel: look for the 51 Via Nationale sign, then the small plaque to the left of the door. Reception is two floors up, but take the elevator and press 1. The hotel is very discreet, and our room faced the rear courtyard, so we heard little or no street traffic. The other guests were quiet too. The beds are firm but comfortable, and I slept well every night. The breakfast buffet was lovely, with two ladies making coffee, tea, or chocolate however you wanted. There was more than a basic continental spread, including yogurt, eggs, sausages, pancakes, sweets, and fresh fruit. We also found plenty of very good restaurants nearby, with all sorts of food and prices. Most of the sights we wanted to see were within walking distance, including Termini, the Colosseum, the Forum, and Fontana de Trevi, each about 10 minutes away.
