The location was great, which was about the only thing in its favor. This felt much more like a hostel than a standard hotel: our room shared space with two other “suites,” and my friend and I were given just one key. The bathroom was so cramped it was hard to get undressed for a shower. There was a used soap bar on the shower floor, the drain didn't work, and we ended up standing in a few inches of water. A dirty cup was already on the sink, and the grimy ledge beside it was coming away from the wall, so anything put there slid off. We had two single beds, but they were so close together they might as well have been one. We were given one checkout time, then asked twice to leave before it.

My friend's visa wasn't approved, so I called the hotel to ask if I could use the booking and stay alone. It had been made under my friend's name, but I was going to Rome anyway, with the trip still a week away. At first, the man at the desk offered to open the booking and refund us 50%. When I asked if I could stay instead, he stopped answering our calls and gave the room to someone else. It feels like a way to make double money and take advantage of tourists. Never book this place.

Mr. Simon was the only good part of the hotel. He was polite and helpful.

The one thing going for it is the location, just a block from the train station. Otherwise, it's an apartment split into rooms that they call a hotel, and you share it with two other rooms. The room is about 8x8 or so, and the shower and restroom are very, very small. If that setup doesn't suit you, pick somewhere else.

I was looking for a basic room close to the train station, and this was the place I settled on. The neighborhood felt rough after dark, though it was busy and we had no problems. The owner contacted us around five times to check when we'd arrive, then sent another six messages on the day asking for our exact arrival time. That seemed odd until I got there and saw it was an old building with an apartment divided into separate rooms. If this is one of the last hotels in Rome and the price is
