Hotel Kursaal

For €48, our midweek night here was a great deal, and we’d happily stay again. We booked through booking.com and found the room spacious and clean, with towels provided. The staff were friendly, and restaurants, bars, and a grocery store were all within walking distance. Breakfast was included and better than the usual Italian breakfast.

I wouldn’t recommend staying here. There was just one towel for two people, and when we asked for another, they refused. The bathroom had no soap. The lift wasn’t working, and reception wouldn’t share the Wi-Fi password, saying the Wi-Fi didn’t work. Breakfast was awful, with dry, stale rolls and coffee that seemed to be made from nothing. The staff were completely unprofessional.

Lovely.

The people working here were the highlight for me. They were so welcoming and attentive, and the rooms were comfortable, clean, and looked after. Hotel Kursaal has a central spot in Salsomaggiore Terme, in a pleasant part of town that felt safe and relaxing. From the train station, it’s an easy 10-15 minute walk through the park. Salsomaggiore is a charming little town of about 20,000 people, with the feeling that everyone knows one another. The hotel fits into its character. It isn’t flashy or luxurious, and that’s part of what makes it appealing. You get the essentials I want from a hotel: a good bed, a clean room, decent upkeep, and helpful staff, without unnecessary extras.
