Agriturismo Cantagalli

We've been to Tuscany four times, and this valley is exactly the picture-postcard landscape you'd imagine. The Agriturismo was excellent, and I'm going back. My brother and I, both experienced 60 year travelers, spent 10 days in Tuscany in November 2018, four of them here. Experiences and the people we meet matter as much as the surroundings, and this was a wonderful stay. Our group rated both the amenities and hosting 10/10. The large bungalow-style building is split into three homes, with three, two and one bedrooms, and sits in a small olive grove with lots of light and views north and west. We stayed in the two-bedroom Forcella. It was exceptionally clean, welcoming and comfortable, with good-sized rooms. The living room had two cozy love seats around a modern fireplace and a TV with multiple channels. The kitchen was roomy by European standards and in excellent shape, with a gas range, dishwasher, microwave, electric kettle, fridge and small freezer. There were clean cabinets, plenty of dishes and cutlery, lots of pots and pans, and cleaning supplies under the sink. Fabiana had left coffee, two boxes of tea, salt, pepper and olive oil, plus a huge container of packaged pastries and bread for us. The dining nook was a good size, with a solid table and chairs. Each room had its own easy-to-use AC and heater controls. The bathroom was clean and comfortable, with a good-sized sink, toilet, bidet and a shower that kept water inside instead of all over the floor. Though there were only two of us, we had four sets of three towels in different colors. Both bedrooms had solid beds, good mattresses and blankets, which were welcome in November. They were nicely proportioned, with the east-facing room a bit larger. Big windows looked out onto the olive grove and the views beyond. I especially appreciated the carefully ironed sheets, a sign of Fabiana's attention to detail. Parking was easy. Outside the front door, there was a table and chairs under a covered area that would be lovely in spring, summer or fall. The town is 1.5km away, an easy walk on a gravel road with little traffic. It's an attractive town with a good-sized COOP, groceries and restaurants. Fabiana is a real gem, full of energy. She came back on Saturday at 6:30 to welcome us and show us around. Her concierge help was great too. She suggested restaurants to suit our budgets and tastes, recommended dishes and wines that were excellent and well priced, planned driving routes, and pointed us to wine tastings. You couldn't ask for a more attentive hostess. She gets 10/10.

We feel right at home at Agriturismo Cantagalli, where we've now stayed twice and keep happily returning. The cottages are beautiful, spotlessly clean, well equipped and comfortable, with lovely views, peace and quiet, and nature all around. Set among ancient olive trees in the heart of Vald'Orcia, it's a great base, only 1.5 km from charming San Quirico d'Orcia and within easy reach of Pienza, Montalcino and Montepulciano. All three apartments have thoughtful comforts: air conditioning, a fully equipped kitchen, a hairdryer, nice toiletries, quality bedding and free WiFi around the clock. Ricardo, the owner, is warm, kind and helpful. He makes you feel welcome as soon as you arrive, and his tips for the area and local sights are always spot-on. We highly recommend it.
