Hotel La Praia

The beds were comfortable, and the views were fantastic. The place itself was clean and adequate, though we couldn't use the oven because it kept tripping the electrics. We visited out of season, so some services weren't available. The lido was closed, with no sunbeds or umbrellas for us to use. Luckily, we'd hired a car and could drive to Tropea beach, where everything was still open.

We booked two rooms through Hotels.ca and paid the non-refundable amount. Only afterward did the owner email to say towels and linens cost an extra 10 euros per person. That fee hadn't been disclosed before booking, and for our group of seven it meant another 70 euros. We asked Hotels.ca to contact the owner about a refund, and we called him ourselves too. My wife speaks fluent Italian, and she explained that the charge hadn't been mentioned before we paid for these non-refundable rooms. He refused, bluntly and belligerently, saying there was nothing we could do. So far, he still hasn't offered a refund or handled this in what I consider an honest, professional way. I'd strongly suggest looking elsewhere before booking, since you could also end up facing fees that weren't disclosed. After this experience, I don't think this establishment deserves business from honest, hard-working people saving for a vacation.

The rooms and the view were lovely, and the staff were wonderful. I was told I had to have dinner there because nowhere else was open. Dinner with house wine came to €40, which felt far too expensive to me. That's why I'm giving it three stars; otherwise it would've been five.
