Hotel Antigo Trovatore

The location is fantastic, with the Bridge of sighs on the way every time you go out. Restaurants are just seconds away, as is a place to pick up water or drinks, and most things you need to see are a 1-13 minute walk away. The rooms are nice, with great bathrooms, good shower pressure, a blow dryer, and nice air conditioning. Front desk staff were polite, helpful, and spoke good English.

The location near the port is the best thing about this hotel. The bald man at reception was rude. Guests have to leave their keys whenever they go out. I went to an early morning mass and, when I returned, he said I hadn't handed mine in. After reluctantly getting a spare key, I was almost made to believe I'd lost it. Then he came knocking with the key in question, which he'd handed to another guest. He didn't apologize. What if that guest had been a thief? He said it wasn't his fault because he couldn't know everyone's face. Maybe they shouldn't have that rule, then. The hangers looked mismatched, like rejects from your grandmother's bin, and if you leave the bathroom closed too long it smells like sulfur.

Very clean hotel, comfortable room, and really hot showers. It's well located and we'd stay again.

The receptionist was really rude and racist. The older woman threatened to call the police and said I was there illegally, even after I showed her my Dutch residence permit. I'm originally Indian and have brown skin. I wanted to leave, but the room had already been paid for and it was a dark, cold night, so I told her, “Okay, if the police come, I'll deal with them.” It left a really sour feeling and ruined my trip to Venice. I'm definitely not going back.
