Carlton Capri Hotel

I felt safe traveling solo, and the hotel was quiet at night. My room was spacious, nicely decorated, and had A/C. It’s near the train station but still within walking distance of the main sights. Being able to drop off luggage before and after checkout was handy.

For our three nights in Venice, this was just what my wife and I needed. We used the room only to sleep. The beds were comfortable and, most importantly, clean; the thermostat kept the temperature fine. Staff took care of what we needed, and the shower was decent, if nothing special. Hotel Carlton Capri isn’t glamorous, but it’s functional and minutes on foot from everything, while sitting away from the hustle. Rialto is about a 15-minute walk, and the route is a nice chance to wander off and find empty streets and bridges. It’s a lower-priced three-star hotel, so anyone expecting IHG standards should book an IHG.

The location is excellent, but several things made this a poor stay. We found a large patch of mold on the wall behind the bed only just before checkout, after severe sneezing fits and sore throats. The room had smelled strongly of disinfectant when we arrived, which in hindsight should have been a warning. We reported the mold, but the staff seemed to know about it already, and we’d been assigned the room anyway. If you stay, check behind the bed or headboard and other large furniture as soon as you arrive. Ask to change rooms right away if you see mold or smell mustiness. The baby cot was barely usable, the front desk staff seemed a little rude, the shower was lukewarm, though the bathtub itself was good, and breakfast was underwhelming. For us, it wasn’t worth the price. If you can, spend more and stay elsewhere.

We spent four days here and had breakfast. For the price, the double room was good. It was clean, and the staff were kind and polite. Breakfast cost 10€ and was worth it. The buffet wasn’t huge, but had everything an ordinary person would want. There was an odd mechanical noise outside, though we couldn’t hear it with the windows closed. Still a great hotel overall.
