Hotel Casanova Venezia

Hotel Casanova is very well placed for exploring Venice, just a short walk from St. Mark’s Square. Our one-night stay was 12-13 February, and the location was easily the best part. The service left us disappointed. The check-in staff were extremely unfriendly, which made for a poor first impression. We also found one of the marked emergency routes blocked by cleaning supplies, a serious thing to see in a hotel. When we asked about staying an extra night, the quoted price was almost three times our original rate. Later, the online price seemed close to what we had first paid, so it gave us the impression that pricing was aimed at tourists. With such a prime location, the lack of professionalism and service was unfortunate.

The staff were friendly and professional, and the rooms were comfortable and a decent size, with a safe in the room. It’s a cosy place in a great spot for seeing Venice. Breakfast is mostly pastries, and the selection is limited. There’s no tea or coffee setup in the room, and anyone hoping for a bar with a range of drinks will be disappointed. After sightseeing, don’t count on coming back for a drink or two. Also, if you shower between 8 and 8:30, the water may not be warm.

We had a room with a roof terrace and a view of the bell tower of St Marks. The hotel is close to everything, and the staff were great and very helpful. Breakfast was very good, with a wide selection of food.

I had a wonderful stay at Casanova for my birthday in October, and the staff were so kind and helpful, especially since I was using a motorized wheelchair. The breakfast team moved chairs so I could reach the table, offered to bring breakfast over, and helped with the chair. Everyone I met at reception was lovely too, including Silvia, Luca, the night staff, and the younger woman with long black hair whose name I’ve forgotten. We chatted a lot, and I still remember how kind she was. Grazie Millie, Baci Angelina,x The location is amazing. Piazza San Marco is at the end of the street, about two minutes away, with Caffe Florian, St Marks basilica and the doges palace nearby. The vaparetto and gondola station are outside the beautiful Monaco & grand canal hotel, at the same end of the street, and designer shops are below the breakfast room. It’s a small hotel with old Venetian glamour, fabric walls, chandeliers and a beautiful, very clean room. There is wheelchair access through the side fire-exit door, and the lift is small. A foldable manual chair, or a foldable motorized one, may fit. Venice has difficulties for disabled visitors because it’s a historic city, but with patience and help, problems can be sorted out. For wheelchair access, the large red triple room has more turning space and a larger bathroom, as does a suite with two separate rooms. The green superior double is smaller, with a small shower room, but could work if you can stand and transfer out of your chair. The room rate is amazing for this hotel. If you want Venetian charm at a good price, Casanova is it. It makes me sad to read bad reviews about this lovely hotel and its hardworking staff, because that wasn’t my experience. Five stars for all the staff and management.
