Hotel Ca' Dogaressa

We’re a family of three, and this place suited us really well. It’s within walking distance of all the Venice sights you’d want to visit, and also of the boat transfer to and from the airport. Nearby there are seafood restaurants rated 4+ and up. It isn’t a standard shiny black-and-white hotel. It felt right for such an enchanting city, and we loved the view from our window. We’d come back if we get another chance to visit Venice!

The location is spot on, in a neighborhood that doesn’t get many day-trip visitors, so it stays uncrowded. Most of the restaurants feel genuinely Venetian rather than like tourist traps. The staff who handled check-in at Leone were amazing. The property has kept the old rooms’ charm and only updated what needed it: the bathrooms, beds, and air-conditioning. The rooms still look great and have modern amenities. One thing to plan for is that check-in happens at Leone Hotel, about 250m away, even though the property is right beside the Guglie ferry terminal. If you arrive at Guglie with lots of bags, leave them there while you walk over to Leone to check in, and do the same when checking out.

The canal-side setting made it easy to reach Venice’s main areas on foot, while the hotel still felt tucked away from the crowds. There are plenty of good restaurants in the neighborhood, too. The rooms were roomy and clean, and the place felt intimate. Check-in happens at Hotel Leone a short way down the street, since Hotel Ca’ Dogaressa has no reception of its own. I’d happily come back.

The room had an unusual look, with plush walls and a big chandelier, but somehow that felt fitting for Venice. There’s no view, though you get plenty of scenery while exploring the city. The only thing I wasn’t keen on was the bathroom setup: just a bathtub with a handheld nozzle, no separate shower. The place was clean and fairly priced, with lots of spots to eat and drink nearby and easy access around Venice on foot or by vaporetto.
