Hotel Malibran

The staff were nice, and we really enjoyed the excellent breakfast. Our room got warm overnight, though, and opening the windows meant getting bitten by lots of mosquitoes. The rooms could use some updating, but the building is old and that might be part of its charm. The location is very central.

We booked through a hotel website and were very pleased with our choice. We wanted somewhere that felt connected to Venice's culture, and this place did. The desk staff were helpful and suggested things to see. We had dinner in the restaurant one evening, and the food was good. When we left, the manager called a water taxi and walked us to the pickup point. We would've had trouble finding it ourselves. We stayed two nights at the end of August 2025.

Getting around Venice was easy from Hotel Malibran. It's right by the main tourist spots and close to the big shopping district, so we could walk everywhere. The hotel was exceptionally clean, with my room spotless every day thanks to the housekeeping team. Breakfast was fresh, well prepared and had a good range of choices. The building is quite old and could use renovation, but my stay was still very pleasant. If location, cleanliness and a solid breakfast are what you're after, Hotel Malibran is a good choice.

Ants under the duvet were what we found when my daughter pulled back her blanket at bedtime. I rushed to reception, but the only alternative the gentleman offered was a room with one single bed. I couldn't share that with my teenage daughter, so I had to pack everything again, move rooms and return the old room's digital key downstairs. The new room was smaller, had an old apple left behind by the staff, and the bathroom was so cramped that the toilet was against the wall and an adult couldn't sit on it. The shower was in the same space, leaving the whole floor wet and the bathroom unusable afterward. The room faced a theater, and the noise from the crowds continued until 1 AM. We didn't sleep all night. In the morning I asked for the manager. He first questioned whether we'd left food out to explain the ants, with no apology or offer to fix things, then argued with me about the bathroom. He said we could return to the original room or pay for an upgrade to a larger one. I wouldn't go back without proper disinfection. Later, the evening receptionist said the manager had left no instructions to move us back and told us to stay in the tiny room with the awful bathroom and street noise. In all my travels, I've never had such disrespectful service. Disgusting and unsafe, with extremely poor sanitation. Stay elsewhere if you can.
