Hotel San Samuele

The listing gave me a completely different impression. There are 63 photos on the SMALL hotel's website, but none showed room 10, and now I can see why. The place is old, and the room was only passably clean. The bed broke as soon as I sat on it after we arrived. I'm 26 and by no means overweight, and the panels underneath were already held together with masking tape. Paint was peeling above the bed, the sink was clogged, and after staff tried to fix it, it leaked onto the floor for the rest of our stay. Both doors were difficult to open, and thin walls meant hearing people come and go all night. We also woke up with odd bites on our arms, ankles, and face, and have no idea what caused them. At checkout, a man stopped us on the stairs and told us to come upstairs. Only once we got there did he say he worked at the hotel. He wasn't friendly or professional. I wasn't expecting much from a 1-star place, but the reviews persuaded me to try it. I was really, really disappointed. Don't make the same mistake.

We only stayed one night, but loved it. The hotel has a lot of charm and is close to the main sights. What really made the visit was the staff, who were so nice and always ready to help with information or anything that would make us more comfortable. It was the best experience I've had so far. Thanks again for everything!

Everything was spotless, and the location was perfect. The interiors are nicely done and the place feels cozy; our room had its own bathroom, though the shower space was cramped and the water only lukewarm. Towels are changed once every three days. There's no breakfast, but tea and coffee are available at reception around the clock, with cookies in a cute jar. The staff were very friendly. This was my first stay at a 1-star hotel, and I'd happily recommend it.

We paid a very reasonable price for a room that was small but exactly what we needed. The hotel is spotless and full of character, and the staff were lovely and helpful. We spent three nights here in February and had a fantastic time. Reception also has free tea and coffee, plus a computer and printer to use. Thanks for having us :)
