Locanda Poste Vecie

It’s a handy base for exploring Venice. At Locanda Poste Vecie, our room was a decent size with a high ceiling, a fairly spacious bathroom, and good internet. It got a bit warm, so opening the very tall windows helped. The downside was having no screens, which meant mosquitoes and other bugs bothered us now and then.

The place was clean and the neighborhood was quiet, with the main center close enough. But we left stiff, covered in mosquito bites, and short on sleep, so I can’t recommend it for a Venice stay. We barely saw any staff during our two nights. We passed through around 9 in the morning, 3 in the afternoon, and 6 in the evening, and no one was there. There was just a sign saying someone would be back in 10 minutes. The only time we saw staff was at checkout. They also never explained that the AC was set to heat. It blew painfully hot air no matter what we tried, so we had to sleep with the windows open just to breathe. With all the mosquitoes in Venice, we woke up bitten all over. At checkout, staff said they knew about the issue and had left a mosquito repellent plug in a cabinet. We had no idea it was there or what it was for because nobody told us. We’d booked a queen bed, but it was two singles pushed together. They shifted apart overnight, and we woke up with back pain. The pillows were so thin they left us with sore necks, a lovely way to start a day exploring a new city.

The location is a real plus, just a couple of minutes from Rialto bridge, with plenty of amenities nearby and a discount at their restaurant Poste Vecie. For the price, the room is decent, though some parts could use attention. The mattress is firm, and it’s two single beds pushed together. There were only three pillows, and they need replacing. I’d give the service a 3: we asked for extra pillows, but whenever we went downstairs nobody was there.

The location is the one good thing. The rooms are very dated, and the hotel is so noisy that sleeping well seems impossible, especially in room 7. Our towels had blood stains, the minibar was never restocked, and the air conditioning didn’t work. There were mosquitoes everywhere.
