At checkout, the older woman at the front desk demanded one extra euro for my single night. The room had been booked and paid for well in advance, so I was confused. I handed over my card to avoid an argument, but she shouted that I was supposed to pay in cash. I told her I don't carry cash, can only use my card, and am not from here. If extra money was required, I said, that should have been disclosed during booking. I planned my Venice trip months ahead and would have come prepared if I'd known. She kept talking over me, yelling, and accusing me of lying when I said I hadn't been told about the charge. She also threatened to call the police. I raised my voice and started talking over her too. Then she got up and tried to flip her desk over on me, but knocked everything over on her side instead. It felt like she wanted a physical confrontation over one euro in cash, which seemed very suspect, almost like she was trying to scam me.

We were charged extra city taxes at check-in that hadn't been communicated beforehand, which left me with a very bitter impression and felt like a scam. I even left the bottle behind to make a point about what I saw as poor accommodation management. The shared bathroom also hadn't been clearly mentioned when I booked. One night it was occupied for a long time, and I was so uncomfortable that I had to relieve myself in a bottle. That's completely unacceptable for a paying guest in a supposedly tourist city. I strongly advise against booking here. There are plenty of better options in Venice where you won't end up in such an embarrassing, degrading situation.

The hotel has a charming interior, with lovely little shops and delicious places to eat nearby. It's right on Canreggio, so you're very central. The room was very clean and had all the essentials. It's no longer state of the art, but I thought the price matched what you get. The staff were extremely friendly, which alone makes me want to book again straight away. I'd highly recommend it for a short trip, and I'll stay here again.

Make sure to look on the left side of the street for the sign, since it isn't lit during the day. For the price, this is a real find. I loved the practical room and the staff, who were cheerful the whole time. You're not coming here for luxury, but it's absolutely comfortable, even with the standard tiny European shower. I slept like a dead guy and will stay with them again when I return to Venice.
