Hotel Monaco & Grand Canal

Housekeeping was friendly and dependable. I especially appreciated the small touch of finding a paper lid over my glass of red wine after I’d left it overnight. Staff overall were attentive, spoke English, and seemed genuinely keen to help. Breakfast was tasty, and seating was efficient with no unnecessary wait. The rooms have an elegant gold and cream look, with marble bathrooms and good quality toiletries. The bed was comfortable for me, though some people may find the mattress a bit firm. The pillows could also come in more firmness options. Monaco Hotel has stylish rooms and thoughtful service, and a few more choices for pillows and mattresses could make it work better for everyone.

The room we were first given smelled musty, as though it hadn’t been aired out for months, and the air conditioning barely worked all night. The staff were rude and shockingly unprofessional from the start. When I asked the receptionist basic questions about the facilities, I got eye-rolls and vague, dismissive replies. Customer service felt nonexistent. We also had a serious lighting problem, with both the room and toilet lights not working properly. The concierge manager spent nearly 20 minutes flipping the switch on and off, then left without fixing anything. He said the hotel was fully booked and suggested we spend the night with no lights in the room or bathroom. Only after we pushed back did they offer another room, and it was smaller and a lower category than the one we booked. There was no apology, compensation, or acknowledgment of the inconvenience. This was one of my worst hotel stays. Poor maintenance, no accountability, and that lack of professionalism made it a nightmare. I wouldn’t recommend the place.

The hotel’s location is great, and staff were helpful. We had a junior suite with no view, but the windows opened onto an alley where we could see the grand canal down the way, and it saved us a few bucks. It was easy to get a boat taxi right to the hotel’s front door.

We held our wedding dinner at Monaco Grand Hotel in Venice with our family of 10, and it was unforgettable. Lorenzo, our table manager, made the evening feel magical with his warmth, professionalism, and kindness. Everything was handled with care, and the atmosphere, food, and service were all exceptional. A perfect place for such a special celebration. Highly recommended!
