Campo Santa Margherita made a fantastic base for our stay in Venice. There are plenty of restaurants, cafés and easy pizza-to-go options, and the square feels local and lively. A Conad supermarket nearby is handy for essentials, the water taxis are about a 5-minute walk away, and Piazza San Marco is roughly a 20-minute walk. It was a great spot for exploring while still having a neighborhood feel.

We enjoyed the square. A small fish market was open when we visited, and from the information we had, it was popular with locals. Even amid the biggest crowds at St. Mark's Square, this place felt relaxing and authentic while still lively enough.

There are benches where you can sit during the day and watch people go by. In the evening, grab a refreshing spritz at one of the pubs around the square and get your night started. Campo Santa Margherita is buzzing with local energy, and its closeness to Ca’ Foscari University brings in a young crowd. You can also head farther south into Dorsoduro, where people gather outside the district's distinctive bars and pubs. It's Venice's liveliest square.
