Palazzo Venere Apartments

Once we got inside, the apartment was magnificent and ended up being the best stay we had in Italy. It was spacious and clean, with all the amenities, including air conditioning and an espresso machine, plus a complimentary bottle of champagne. The price was very reasonable, and it’s only a seven-minute walk from the train station. I’d gladly stay again. Getting in was a little clunky because we booked through Chase Travel. I wasn’t given check-in instructions, and no one was there to meet us when we arrived. Eventually we found a number on the website and reached the property manager, who sorted things out.

The apartments worked perfectly for our group of friends and family, and everyone who helped us was fantastic. We came to celebrate my 50th birthday and are truly grateful for the lovely time we had in Venice. We had plenty of space for our two-night stay. The place was clean and very well maintained, and I’d recommend it.

The location and check-in were real strengths, but I wouldn’t choose the ground-floor Restauratore apartment again. We were four people staying two nights, and came away disappointed. The other apartments may be different. It’s about a 10-minute walk to Venice S.L. train station or Piazzale Roma, so arriving by train or airport bus is easy, and I wouldn’t have wanted to drag our bags any farther into Venice. You’re also within 15 minutes on foot of the main sights. For around 400 EUR a night, the value seemed fair for a two-bedroom, two-bath apartment that technically sleeps five with a single futon in the living room. Check-in and check-out were smooth, and the hosts were easy to reach on Whatsapp. Sleep was difficult. Street noise from people talking, walking, and pulling suitcases over cobblestones carried right into the ground-floor flat, and we could hear everything from upstairs. Earplugs didn’t help much. We basically only managed to sleep from 1am to 7am. There were lots of mosquitoes or other insects too, despite our visit being in May. We ended up with many bites after just two nights. I can only imagine it’s worse in hotter or more humid weather, so bring bug spray or buy a mosquito candle. The apartment could use more upkeep. It would’ve been helpful to have a mosquito candle provided, one bathroom had no soap at all, and its handheld shower head didn’t work. The flat felt old and in need of cleaning and maintenance. Since it was ground floor, there was no natural light, the windows couldn’t be opened, and the air conditioning was exceptionally weak. Even in May, it felt stuffy. I wouldn’t stay here again. The location is excellent, and you probably get what you pay for given the relatively low price for a central Venice apartment sleeping five with two bathrooms.
