The concierge was incredibly friendly and helpful, with great suggestions for excursions and restaurants. It’s an easy walk with luggage to Venezia S.Lucia station, and a main Vaparetto station is very close too. Breakfast had fresh croissants, cappuccino, fruit juice, and a choice of bread, cereal, jam, and cheese. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and a decent size. Such a lovely hotel. I’d recommend it to anyone after a good three-star place in Venice. Five stars for a good three-star hotel.

Agostino, one of the managers, made us feel like family and pointed us to a great restaurant. The room was lovely, comfortable, and offered excellent accommodations for the price. It was quiet and well located near the train station and the Grand Canal vaporetto’s last drop-off. I couldn’t have been happier with the service, and when I come back, this is the only hotel I’d consider.

At 4 am on October 2, 2014, I was trapped inside hotel Spagna. I had specifically told them I’d be leaving early to catch my 6:30 am international flight to San Francisco. The front door was locked, there was no way to open it, and nobody was at reception. No one answered the phone or my calls, nobody responded when I yelled, no one was in any of the rooms at reception level, and none of the keys at the desk would unlock the door. Someone had locked all the guests in and left. I spent 30 minutes trying to get out. Then I dropped my bag from a second-floor window and, after a lot of hesitation, jumped about 10 feet onto the rock-hard pavement. My feet still hurt two weeks later. I was lucky not to be badly injured. What a horrible tragedy could happen if this hotel caught fire! I contacted hotel Spagna by phone and email, and they basically ignored me. I’ll file a complaint with the local authorities so this doesn’t happen to future guests. A horrible experience.

The location was convenient and good, and breakfast was basic. Our room was small and there was no elevator, so we had to carry our luggage up four floors.

It was an okay sort of place, decent compared with the average hotel in Venice. The staff were accommodating within the services they had available, but there’s no restaurant or room service, and they didn’t help with luggage.
