Venice Star House

The main drawback is that there’s only one shared bathroom for all the guests. Apart from that, it’s a very nice place to stay. The room was clean, the price was within budget, and the owner was helpful, explaining all the details about Venice. There are shops, stalls and pizza places nearby without high prices. A direct bus to Venice island starts running early, from 4:30 in the morning, and you can buy a whole-day Venice pass at the nearby Lotto shop.

Our experience was entirely negative. The host was unfriendly, ignored our messages, then cancelled the reservation at the last minute. We only got a response after contacting a staff member through the hotel platform, and somehow arranged to check in the next day. Save yourself the stress we had on vacation. The toilet was so dirty that my girlfriend and I got a skin infection on our legs and buttocks. The rooms are small, and in summer it was impossible to stay there without air conditioning. The internet didn't work, the bed was extremely hard and noisy, and we could hear everything from the other guests. The location felt sketchy and very dangerous at night. It's a Muslim and Indian area, and while walking back one night we were surrounded by some people who begged us for money. We felt very scared 😱

The room was clean and not bad, but the mattress felt like stone blocks. Service was terrible: checking in was awful, with no one there to greet us. The instructions said to call a number, but I tried three times and got no answer. They accused us of not calling, even though we had, and Expedia tried too. You never see the staff, so if you've got a question about the room or area, there's no one to help. The location wasn't any better, and needing four keys just to get into the room is ridiculous. People in the area didn't seem welcoming to tourists, even paying customers. Worst place ever!

My friend booked us a stay through Agoda at Venice Star House, the accommodation next to Venice Amazing House. Google reviews mistakenly suggested that we review this accommodation because they're in the same building and probably run by people who know each other. Our experience was terrible, so we left a bad review. For the next two days, my friend started getting calls from these people. When I asked where they got her number, they said they'd taken it from Venice Star House. If they can get our phone number from another business, they clearly don't understand data privacy and could pass your personal information to someone else if asked. We agreed to delete the review, but leaking someone's phone number and threatening them is unacceptable. Google has a feature that lets businesses reply to reviews, but these people chose to ask another business for personal information and call and threaten us instead.
