Hotel Lexton Amami Central

The one real plus for us was having a Japanese-style room. Apart from that, I wouldn't choose this hotel for a family with small kids. We were given a non-smoking six-tatami room on our first visit. Having a one-year-old, we liked the Japanese-style setup, but there was dust and dirt around the room and the cleaning felt incomplete, especially around the shoji screens. The entrance looked clean, while the rooms seemed as if they hadn't been properly redone. Even the elevator felt alarmingly shaky. There are a decent number of parking spaces, though at some times of year I can imagine the lot filling up. Noise was another problem. Of the four other hotels we've used in the area, this one let in the most sound from outside. Drunk adults wouldn't have been such a concern on their own, but barking dogs and people making noise kept waking our child. For me, the order would be: WC >> NA >> SP >> Kokoro

The location worked well, with restaurants and convenience stores close by, and there was plenty of room in the parking lot. Most of the front desk staff seemed older, but they were consistently polite and helpful. The room itself gave me pause: I knew it was a single smoking room, but there was a persistent smell beyond cigarette smoke, perhaps from the curtain between the toilet and bath. That left me with a low impression overall.

We were three in the family and had been told to expect a large Japanese-style room, but it turned out to be one six-tatami room. It felt a little tight, though we were comfortable enough. The facilities are old, but the renovation gives them a fairly modern look. There was some dust in the corners, and the windows didn't seal well, so outside sounds came through clearly. Getting around was easy, with convenience stores and family restaurants nearby. We also got a discount ticket for breakfast at a family restaurant. The hotel is close to the nightlife area, so finding dinner or drinks wasn't an issue.

For our first Amami trip, we picked this place just because its location looked right online, and it turned out to be handy for sightseeing and going out for drinks. I don't quite get complaints about the rooms being small or dirty at this price. The value is really good. My son and I shared a Japanese-style smoking room. The smell didn't bother us much, though anyone sensitive to it should ask for a non-smoking room when booking. My wife and daughter had a triple room, about the same size, so theirs felt a bit cramped too. Still, everyone slept well. I'd recommend it for a sightseeing stay in Amami.
