The room was spacious, with a lovely view over the landscape garden. On a cold, misty evening we could hear the garden frogs calling. At check-in, the woman hosting us took time to show us the facilities, walk us to our room, and explain how to use the private onsen on the outdoor verandah. Dinner looked beautiful, with a nice balance of colors and textures, and tasted excellent. The raw horse meat was served even though we’d messaged ahead asking for a substitute. The manager apologized and personally arranged a replacement, giving us a double portion of top-grade Wagyu beef. Breakfast was just as abundant, with every dish laid out with care.

The private hot spring was the best part, though we could hear the neighbors opening doors, running water, and getting into their bath. It made the space feel less private. The hotel is in a remote spot, and I was surprised to see quite a few overseas visitors like us. The building, room, facilities, and food were all amazing. The staff, including the English-speaking non-Japanese staff, did a great job looking after guests. Still, with so many international visitors around, it didn’t give me the feeling of being in Japan that I’ve had at other places.

We had such a good stay. The rooms are huge, modern, and stylish. Everyone on staff was incredibly kind. Isao, who speaks fluent English, went out of his way to help us get a helicopter ride reservation. Thanks so much!
