Asadaya has a remarkable history, but I left feeling underwhelmed and think it needs fresh energy and investment. Our suite was spacious, though dated, especially the bathroom. The food was good but not outstanding, and the Japanese breakfast disappointed me. Service was proper, but without much charm. We asked to use the bath after breakfast, around 10, and were told we couldn’t, perhaps because checkout was at 11. The tatami hadn’t been tidied during breakfast, and housekeeping wasn’t as thorough as I expected. Other ryokans have surpassed it, including places costing a fraction as much, such as Ryokan Shinshen in Kyushu and the very traditional Yoshimatsu in Hakone, which offers exceptional value by comparison.

We had such a good time celebrating our first anniversary here. The people were warm, the rooms spectacular, and some of the best food we had on the trip. They even made dinner special with a gift. We loved our people here.

A peaceful, beautiful ryokan and a truly fantastic, authentic Japanese stay. Our gracious hostess and her team made it one of the most exceptional experiences of my life. Both dinner and breakfast were top quality. Thank you, I’d highly recommend this hotel.

The entire visit was fantastic, from the service and rooms to the food and massage. What an amazing experience. If you’re after a traditional Ryokan stay with great food, I can’t recommend this enough.
