Kamenoi Hotel Beppu

A cosy place for families with kids, with great service and plenty of parking. Breakfast and dinner are tasty, though they’re rather similar much of the time. The speciality vegetables and eggs cooked with hot spring steam have a distinct, very nice taste. A must try.

The Onsen was nice, and the laundry was good, with a change machine nearby. There’s a good shop, too, and the hotel is close to the station and places to eat. The main drawbacks were the small, hard pillows and the lift, which was often very slow. The hotel is fine.

Dinner and breakfast were both great, with local cuisine and slightly different dishes at each meal. The room was spacious and quiet, and amenities were provided. The hot spring wasn’t as appealing as those at other places, but the stay was still worth it. It’s a five-minute walk from the station, with a convenience store and two supermarkets nearby. Tour groups stay here, but it wasn’t peak season, so the overall experience was great.

The restaurants and kids area were good, but we slept terribly because the room was so hot. I got only two hours of sleep. The hotel has older-style central air conditioning, so you can’t set the room temperature yourself. It was winter and the setting was too warm, and the front desk couldn’t change it. We had to prop the door open to get any sleep. I wouldn’t recommend staying here in winter. We’d eaten at the buffet before and thought the hotel would be just as nice, but the stay turned out badly.
