The apartment was clean and well kept, and the location is excellent, close to the station. The host was thoughtful and considerate with the amenities. Although check-in was contactless, that and the other formalities went smoothly and easily. I’d definitely recommend it.

We stayed four nights while visiting Beppu. It’s a self-service setup: you arrange a time and make the booking, then they send directions and instructions for getting the key. After that, you let yourself in and use the apartment. It’s a typical Japanese apartment, smaller than Western ones but cosy and comfortable. There’s a supermarket nearby, so I cooked most nights. Beppu train station is a seven-minute walk away, making it easy to get around, and there’s parking for road trippers. It’s ideal for one or two people who want more flexible timing than most Japanese hotels offer.

The space is small, but tidy and well organized, with all the basic necessities. It works perfectly for two people and a child. You do have to call the owner to get access, and they only speak Japanese, but you can try to communicate with them. There’s no elevator, so a lower-floor apartment is best. Aside from that, I’d give it five stars.

A perfect spot for a trip, with a great location.
