I’m really glad I spent two nights here. It’s quite far from the train station, but the owner was so kind and the place was beautifully decorated. The spacious room felt like such a good deal for what I paid. In the morning, the sound of the river was really soothing. Thank you.

We chose the big room, with a small table, cool chairs, tatami and a futon bed. It was super beautiful, as was the room itself, and the house had a lovely traditional Japanese style. The owner was really nice too. It’s around a 10 minute walk to the bus station, which is the only downside, though I found Beppu buses okay. There are two shared bathrooms, one upstairs and one on the first floor, plus a shared shower for everyone. We never had to wait, it was always free.

The couples who own the place welcomed me warmly and were very friendly. The house and rooms seem to have been renovated recently. I especially liked the clean bathrooms and the quiet dryer. There’s no bath in the house, so guests have to use the one across the street. If you have tattoos, there are other onsens about 10min away that allow them. I loved staying in this beautiful place, but they don’t provide any amenities at all, including towels, sleepwear or toothbrushes, so you’ll need to prepare ahead if you want a more comfortable stay.

The quiet neighborhood was nice, and it seemed average for people with a rental car. It was an experience staying in a regular Japanese house. There’s no shower room, no mirror in the toilet or room, no underfloor heating, and not much else in the way of facilities. No coffee machine, washer or breakfast, and no towel or toothbrush either. It’s also far from the JR station.
