Hotel Aile

The little penguin stickers around the hotel, with directions and recommendations, were especially cute. We had a beautiful mountain view from our room, and the staff were kind and helpful. The location worked really well, with nearby restaurants, the seaside park, and Beppu station all easy to reach.

The location is handy if you're taking the airport shuttle, right outside the Kitahama bus stop, and the train station is about a ten-minute walk. We stayed two nights. The room was fine, but noise carried from other rooms, especially when people walked around upstairs.

We enjoyed our stay and liked the onsen spas, but the room smelled musty, maybe because of a moldy towel rack. It's spacious, though. One group in the onsen was laughing and talking so loudly that I could hear them from the hallway, and it put me off going in. There are a lot of overseas tourists who don't know the manners, so I hope the hotel sets clear rules or explains them at check-in. We'd like to come back if they improve these things.

I spent three nights here in November and had a great stay. The bus stop is right across from the hotel, the rooms are very clean, and there are hot spring bath facilities. The employees are friendly and do their best to help guests. I highly recommend it and would choose it again on my next visit.
