Nishitetsu Resort Inn Beppu

We found the room smaller than expected, particularly if you’re carrying a lot of luggage. The double bed felt tight for two adults to sleep comfortably for a long stay, though we managed for one night. In spite of the cramped room, the staff were welcoming and professional from check-in and made us feel at home. The Nishitetsu Resort Inn Beppu is in a handy spot for getting around: bus stops are right in front, there are several malls and an ABC-Mart nearby, and the Beppu Port is close by too. It could be a great base if you’re taking the Sunflower Ferry. With its convenient transport links, location near the water and good service, I’d say it’s a solid place for a short Beppu stopover.

Rooms are small by Japanese standards, with limited room for luggage. The bathroom is cramped too, with a small tub and shower combined. We preferred using the onsen on the second floor. Beppu Station is about a 10-15 minute walk. There’s a bus stop right outside that’s a terminal for some lines, though it isn’t ideal for going to the station since that’s where those buses start. Across the street, there’s a department store beside a convenience store.

The room was small, which I expected, but the air conditioning made the night miserable. It was so warm that even the little fan didn’t help. The tub was tiny, so I went to the onsen to shower instead. I wish it had been cleaned better, as the floor felt slippery.

The room was a little dirty, especially the curtain, and although there’s a kettle, no drinks, tea or coffee were provided. That was my only real complaint. With a clean room, this would have been a five-star stay for me. The location is great, right by the beach, Lawson and restaurants, with a bus stop outside. The onsen was lovely and the staff were great.
