Getting around needs a little planning: the airport is about 18 km away, and there are no taxis there. The local bus is slow and doesn’t run often, so arrange a ride with the hotel ahead of time. The staff also helped me find places to eat and plan visits to the caves and viewpoints. Floral feels like the main base for visitors to Okinoerabu, and the alternatives near Wadomari didn’t seem as well organized. It’s no luxury stay, but the team at check-in were professional and friendly. My room was clean, though dated, and the simple bathhouse and friendly restaurant with tasty, practical food did the job.

The bus stop is only about a three-minute walk away, and the ocean is close too. The staff were kind and helpful. I’m not sure whether they speak English, but I could communicate with them in Japanese. My room had plenty of space, a comfortable bed, air conditioning for the island heat, and a good-sized tub and shower. There was also a fancy Japanese toilet. The hotel has a restaurant with very good food, though it’s small, so I’d book ahead just in case. I’d definitely recommend this nice hotel on Okinoerabujima for anyone wanting to stay in China, Okinoerabujima.

The breakfast buffet included the hotel’s specialty, chicken rice, and it was delicious. There’s also a large public bath with a sauna in the basement of the annex, free for guests to use. The Okierabu Floral Hotel is a historic public lodging in China Town on Okinoerabu Island, where the Emperor, now the Emperor Emeritus, stayed during his visits. I’d like to come back if I get the chance. 😊

A motorbike rental made it easy for us to enjoy Okinoerabu Island. The airport shuttle was a big help, and there’s a shop for souvenirs and other things. The hotel is quiet enough that you can hear the waves, which made it a relaxing place for an island trip. Big windows look out over the East China Sea. There’s a large public bath downstairs and an observation bath on the fifth floor. *(His Majesty the Emperor visited in 2017) I’d recommend it to friends and family.
