Fukuroda Onsen Omoide Romankan

We picked a Western-style room with a private bath, and it was very comfortable. The hotel has a pleasant Japanese feel and is a short drive from Fukuroda Falls, the main attraction in the area. Both meals are buffet style, with good food and free drinks, including alcohol.

I’d gone to see the waterfall for the day and decided I wanted to stay overnight. The nearest hotel was booked, which worked out well because I ended up here. The staff were incredibly kind, and although my room was small, it was enough. The public bath was a favorite, especially the outdoor rotenburo. The place feels suited to couples, so I’ll bring my wife next time. I’m glad I booked both dinner and breakfast. Dinner was excellent, with lots of carefully prepared small dishes featuring local and seasonal food. Breakfast was a buffet with a great selection, served in a very nice room that looked recently redone. The hotel sits beside the river, so you can look out at it while bathing or eating. It was a wonderful visit, and I really appreciated how kind the staff were.

I first came here in 1988, and after 28 years I told myself I’d return. I did, and though things have changed, it’s still as beautiful as ever. Stepping inside is still mesmerizing and spiritual, and I love the onsen. It’s near the beautiful waterfalls, and the outdoor bath is amazing. The rooms have lovely views of the flowing river, with little falls along it. The club is nice for karaoke, breakfast has a delicious range of choices, and the souvenirs are pretty and reasonably priced. P.S. I’ll add pictures later.

The Go to Japan campaign gave us the chance to stay here. Service was superb, dinner was excellent, and the onzen was great. Breakfast was a traditional morning buffet with limited choices, which meant no food was wasted. We had a great stay, though it might be too expensive once the campaign ends.
