The location was fantastic, and the service was consistently Japanese best. The room, though, looked old, and the furniture and bathroom showed their age more than at other local hotels. Updating those and improving the room amenities would make this a five-star stay.

This is a classic, high-end inn with an onsen above Dazaifu, in the luxury or upper business-class range. There’s a free shuttle to the rail and bus station. The buffet was excellent, and the restaurant had a range of vegan and plant-based choices.

The onsen facilities were decent, and the staff were friendly and tried to help, but this wasn’t the calm, relaxing stay I’d hoped for. The hotel felt overcrowded, with packed common areas and a chaotic atmosphere. We found a cockroach in our room, and there was a constant damp, musty smell. Those cleanliness issues made it hard to unwind after a long travel day. The facilities also felt outdated and could use a renovation, along with more attention to cleanliness. I’d consider it for a budget or quick no-frills stay, but I can’t recommend it for a peaceful onsen visit.

Reception was friendly, the restaurant was very nice, and the onsen is the best in town. It’s out of town and not walkable, with the city about 1 km uphill, but there’s a shuttle.

For what I paid, this place was better than I expected. My room was spacious for one person, and the quiet onsen setting let me properly rest. Dinner was included and excellent, with really good Wagyu beef alongside seafood. The only downside was the first free shuttle to the train station didn’t run until around 10:30am, which felt late. I ended up taking a taxi instead.
