This was one of the worst hospitality experiences I’ve had, and I found it completely unacceptable. My parents, both in their 70s, were staying at this hotel. They don’t speak Japanese or English, so I went to reception to help with a simple request for more water. I explained clearly that I wasn’t trying to enter their room or use any facilities, just assist elderly guests who were already paying customers. The staff refused outright and kept repeating, “only hotel guests are allowed.” They showed no flexibility or understanding of the situation. Then they used Google Translate to ask me, “are you leaving the premises NOW?” They chose to make me leave while I was helping two elderly guests, rather than provide a bottle of water. This went beyond poor service. It felt like a failure of basic hospitality and humanity. If this is how they treat elderly guests who need help, think twice before staying here. Avoid this place at all costs.
We’re staying in the glamping room with our three young children, and they’re in love with it. The kitchen has basic facilities, and we used the BBQ to cook wagyu beef we bought ourselves. There’s also free-flow curated wine in the lobby, plus bread and juice for the kids. The viewing point is even better than going to the lake. Best decision ever to stay here, and we’ll definitely come back!
We got to Awaumi before check-in, and the staff kindly held our luggage. The resort was clean, the staff were great to work with, and the rooms were spacious with comfortable beds. We also enjoyed using the sauna and bathtub. A grocery store, Lawsons, a coin laundry mat, and a ramen shop are all less than a 7 minute walk away. Awaumi doesn’t provide direct transportation to or from Kawaguchiko station, but it’s an 8 minute bus ride each way. The bus is crowded, so I wouldn’t recommend bringing luggage on it. You can also flag down Taxis at the station.
We loved staying at Awaumi on our Mt Fuji trip. The suite was spacious and had a private hot bath that I really enjoyed. The location was great, and the service for my family and me was exceptional. Free wine and juice are available daily in the main building.
We stayed in the suite and had an amazing experience. The facilities looked new or very lightly used, and the in-room sauna and onsen tub overlooking the garden were top-notch. The open kitchen is small but well equipped, and the grill was easy to use. We made some BBQ and hot stew. The one drawback was that the dining table is on the patio, so it got a bit cold. They did provide a movable hot fan, with heaters throughout the house. We brought our own food from a nearby supermarket because other reviewers had mentioned that the in-room meals might not be enough. Our suite was right beside reception, and the dining table had a view of Mount Fuji. The beds were a bit stiff, and the bedrooms didn’t have blackout blinds. Still, it was an amazing stay, great for couples wanting something luxurious, two couples sharing, or a big family.
