A nice place to stay in Fukui, with good kaiseki, friendly staff, and good enrichment.

The Echizen crab Stay Plan was excellent. I’d highly recommend it!

This little hot spring inn has just nine rooms, and its single-story, barrier-free layout made it very convenient to move around in socks. We booked a room with beds and an open-air bath. Everything inside, including the bathroom, was clean and new, and the room was very comfortable. The fridge had complimentary Fukui cider, beer, and water. We came during crab season for the crab tsukushizen meal, which featured a whole yellow-tagged Echizen crab prepared in different ways. It was a luxurious feast, and with Fukui sake, Kuroryu no Shizuku, it made for a wonderful evening. The hospitality felt just right for Fukui and the season. It was so delicious we got caught up eating and forgot to take photos halfway through.

We stayed as a family in a room with a private open-air bath. Since it was a Japanese-style room, we slept on futons on tatami, but they also supplied a mattress, which made the night much more comfortable. The bath felt different in daylight and after dark, and we could really unwind. We did have to use the shower room before getting into the open-air bath. We were looking forward to Fukui’s autumn seafood and seasonal cooking. Dinner and breakfast were served in a private room. Crab season hadn’t started yet, so we added abalone and Wakasa beef to dinner. Everything was tasty, especially the tender meat. The seasonal dishes were well presented too, including sesame tofu, matsutake mushrooms, and blackthroat seaperch. The homemade dressing and pickles were delicious, and we took some home. In the morning they asked what time we wanted breakfast, then let us know and escorted us to our private room at that time. It was mostly Japanese food, with small plates of different things like heshiko, fermented mackerel, and so much to choose from. I felt relaxed and very satisfied. The inn is on the coast rather than in Fukui city, so we did some sightseeing along the coast and came back via the city.
