Hotel New Otani Hakata

The furnishings feel a little old and dull, though the room is very clean and on the larger side. Service was excellent in my brief interactions, polite and professional. The location is great, with short rides to the train station and Tenshin center. I'd suggest taking the bus so you don't have to go down and back up multiple levels to reach the metro.

The staff were friendly, especially the staff member from Hong Kong. The room was spacious, and the location is excellent, right beside the train station with a convenience store just steps away.

I was there in late September, and the female trainee near the entrance made a real difference. She greeted me so warmly and professionally, and was always looking after customers. Her kindness and smile made the stay genuinely pleasant. Thank you very much。

After the awful first two nights, they moved us to a non-smoking floor, and the new rooms were super clean. They had fresh curtains, no smoke stains on the walls or ceiling, and everything worked properly, including the air filtration system. The newer AC had an English keyboard and screen. We were very happy in those rooms. At first, though, we were put in smoking rooms despite having requested non-smoking. The hotel was full and couldn't do anything for two nights, so we suffered from sinus trouble and poor sleep. The air purifier seemed not to have been serviced at all. Its filter was clogged with nicotine stains and the carbon filter was full of dust, so we turned it off. Housekeeping ozonized the rooms that day, but it didn't help. Cigarette smoke was embedded in the carpet, wallpaper, and curtains. We even had to buy hazardous masks to wear in the room. The AC was old, the fridge barely worked, and the bathroom fan malfunctioned, so the air circulated very badly. Make sure the hotel acknowledges any special requests, like non-smoking rooms. They may not read them otherwise. Without the smoky-room incident, I'd have given the hotel a full four stars. It's a very nice old standard hotel apart from that.
