Amanohashidate Monjuso

The view from the window was peaceful, and the whole atmosphere felt tranquil. We tried both kinds of room, one traditional Japanese room with tatami and one modern Japanese room with beds, and especially liked the modern room's layout. The food was great and the onsen relaxing. Monjuso is a lovely place to rest body, mind, and soul.

We spent three nights at this Ryokan close to the train station. The meals were excellent, especially the seafood, which was some of the best-prepared I've had. At dinner, the futons were laid out for us so the room was ready for nighttime. While we were out, staff cleaned and reset the room properly. They were helpful throughout and worked quietly in the background to make the stay feel seamless. Thanks for the hospitality :)

The river beside our room was crystal clear, with big and small fish that the kids loved seeing. Throughout the property there were Japanese Gardens, and the entrance was impressive. There's also a lovely little souvenir shop next to the counter. The hotel is new and modern but keeps the Japanese ryokan design, with shoe removal and hallways that wind around to the rooms. The onsen bath looked really nice, and breakfast was beautifully presented in a pleasant dining area. We'd stay for more nights next time.

The quiet in the morning was so soothing and rejuvenating after a night there. Front desk staff and the breakfast team were warm and welcoming, and this was one of my best stays in Japan, Kyoto. Just be aware that even though it’s near the train station, getting here from Kyoto takes at least two hours, and you need to book the limited express or Shinkansen in advance, so do your own research before visiting. There isn't much to do after 6-7pm, so we relaxed in the room or spent time with family over sake and snacks bought from nearby stalls during the day. I'd like to visit and stay again.
