The onsen facilities were a step up from Hiranoya for me: there are six baths, including a nice-looking outdoor one, while Hiranoya has two, one of them quite plain. Our visit was on a holiday around 2-3 PM, so the baths were busy. The onsen was only open until 3 PM with the buffet package, and we had to wait 25 minutes after someone fainted and an ambulance was called. I can't really fault the hotel for the crowds, so I’m keeping the five stars. The buffet is tasty and has a pretty good range, including high-quality wagyu. It’s not A5, but it was better than wagyu I’ve had at other onsen hotels. The cheesecake was so good, and there’s cheese fondue too. Dining with that view was lovely. I’ve been to all 47 prefectures, and this is my second-best onsen hotel buffet in Japan. New Akan Hotel in Kushiro, Hokkaido is still my favorite by far, even compared with Tokyo’s five-star hotel buffets.

For ¥2,500, we had lunch and an onsen visit, and the day turned out really relaxing. We arrived around 11 AM and waited until reception opened, I think at about 11:20. The buffet is upstairs on the third floor, then the onsen is down on the lower-ground floor. There’s also a free selection of teas, which was fun to try. There were loads of buffet dishes, though the quality was mixed. I’d take a little to taste first before filling a plate. I especially liked the beef stew, and there was sashimi too, including ika, sawara, and hirame.
