It’s unbelievably dirty. I’d rather get arrested and go to jail than stay here. The price is about what you’d expect in Nishinari, so I’m giving it two stars with that in mind.

The price is under 6,000 yen in total, and nearby coin parking is only 700 yen for 24 hours. Even during Obon and public holidays, a room can apparently be booked for 4,000-5,000 yen, so it’s probably a bargain for solo travelers on a tight budget. Check-in from 4 to 9 p.m. is convenient, and there’s an elevator, a small fridge, and working air conditioning. The room is bright, which I prefer to a dim one, though the choices are basically fluorescent lights on or all lights off. Outside noise wasn’t much of an issue, but I could clearly hear people in other rooms coming and going. There’s no microwave. The place is rundown, with rooms around 13-15 square meters and beds only 120 cm wide, so two people would have a hard time sleeping together. The bathroom was the smallest unit bath I’ve seen. Its shower curtain didn’t reach the tub’s edge, so water spilled onto the floor and around the toilet. I dried off, stepped out, slipped, and splashed water everywhere. My slippers got soaked, and even after drying myself again I had to walk barefoot to the bed. It was ridiculous. The bed had a cheap, worn mattress with loose springs, and there was only a sheet, no mattress pad. The tiny, thin, sponge-like pillow made it worse. I slept lightly with the rough springs against my back. If I only needed somewhere to sleep, a manga cafe at half the price might be better, with a firm surface that could let me sleep more deeply. The room had the feel of a rundown wooden lodging house. I don’t think I’ll come back.

It’s about a 10-minute walk from Gifu Station, and the low price makes it good value. But at 3 a.m., I heard a sudden loud splash, apparently from water leaking down from the toilet on the floor above. Someone even came into my room. There was no phone in the room and hardly anyone at the hotel, so I didn’t know what to do. I eventually found Secom’s emergency number. They contacted the hotel, and a staff member arrived and handled things very courteously.

For multiple nights, the price is very cheap. There are supermarkets and convenience stores nearby, and a good public bath not far away, so it might suit someone who just needs a place to sleep. The location is quiet and away from the center, the sheets were clean, the windows opened, and the weather was nice. The room was also noisy, though. The unit bath had black stains all over it, probably mold, and I couldn’t stop sneezing. The air freshener tickled my nose too. Please check other people’s posts for more detail. Once again, it really comes down to the price.
