Ebisumachi Takadaya

We came as a family of four with our dog. It was our first private lodging, and the outside made us unsure at first, but the owner was thoughtful and welcoming. The facilities were excellent and clearly provided by someone who understands pets, so we were very comfortable. The Taisho-era feel of the room and the range of amenities were better than nearby luxury hotels, and the price was reasonable. I visit Hakodate often for work and would like to stay here by myself too.

I haven’t stayed overnight because I live locally, but a friend runs the place and I stop by sometimes. It seems to have a good reputation, with guests coming from all over the world, and it’s close to the tourist spots. I thought it was a really nice homestay. 🙆‍♀️✨

The rooms are modern in style, but the renovated building has a real sense of history and is worth seeing, even for just one night. It’s a historic structure that apparently survived the Great Hakodate Fire. The room has all the everyday essentials, including a washing machine, rice cooker, gas stove, refrigerator, and iron, making it suitable for a longer stay. Wi-Fi is provided too.

The landlady’s warm smile and hospitality brought back a feeling of rural warmth I’d nearly forgotten. The shopping district and Mt. Hakodate are nearby, and the rooms, with their touches of Hokkaido and Japanese culture, were a highlight for people of all ages and genders. It’s a lovely place to spend time with family or friends. I’ll be back with my family in May!
