HOTEL MYSTAYS Hakodate Goryokaku

The language barrier didn't stop the staff from being incredibly polite and doing their best to help. For a 3* hotel, I'd give it 5*s. The location is good too: Fort Gorykaku is within walking distance, the airport bus stops right outside, and a tram to the Port area is nearby. There's also a convenience store connected to the Hotel Lobby, which was dangerous for my diet. As a solo traveller, I had a room where the bathroom ceiling wasn't very high. The other rooms seemed to have higher bathroom ceilings, including my family's 2x bed room.

The airport bus stops close by, and the main trolley runs right in front of the hotel. It's also very near the tower attraction, with Lawson right next door. I enjoyed my time in Hakodate here. The amenities were great, and I recommend adding breakfast. I liked it better than the several APA brand hotels I've stayed in.

The staff at reception were kind, and checking in and out was super easy. The location is great, right across from the tram stop, with a couple of restaurants nearby. There's also a 24-hour Family Mart attached to the lobby, which was the best part for me. The room was small, as is typical for hotels in Japan, but very clean and stocked with toothbrushes, pajamas, and slippers. It didn't smell of smoke, which I had worried about after reading some reviews. The AC worked really well too.

We loved having a tram stop right outside and a Family Mart attached to the hotel. Goryokaku Tower and park are less than 10 minutes away, and the onsite laundry was reasonably affordable. Our room and bathroom were fairly large, and the provided pajamas were the most comfortable we slept in during our time in Japan. The lobby reeks of cigarette smoke, and since we didn't know it was the smoking area, we noticed the smell often carried into the elevator. We skipped the breakfast buffet because it seemed pricey for what was offered.
