Hotel Zagakukan

That private indoor onsen tub was the main reason we booked, and it was the highlight of our stay. Hotel ZAGAKUKAN is about a seven-minute walk from Hakone-Yumoto Station, with plenty of places to eat nearby. Our two nights, from 7-9 Dec 2025, were fantastic, and the price felt like incredible value. We picked it because it looked cozy and classy within our budget, and it beat our expectations. The superior twin was 23㎡, a little bigger than the 21㎡ standard double, and the setup was lovely. The beds were very comfy and snug, with a subtle ryokan feel even without futons on tatami. They supplied yukata, pajamas, bathrobes, a full set of skincare products, and even a face mask. Check-in at 5 PM is late, but the 1 PM checkout helped balance that.

The standard double is compact, though it has been fitted out well. The bed was comfortable, and the bath uses onsen hot water. The hotel sits on the flat part of town near the river, which is a good location. Parking is available, but it's about a 15-minute walk away. With more than one suitcase, finding space in the room could be difficult.

We really enjoyed our stay and wished we'd booked longer. The rooms were cozy and roomy beyond what we expected, and having a private rooftop onsen was great. The lobby had nice complimentary amenities too, and the Yukata were a lovely touch.

This is a quiet, small hotel in a great spot, just over the bridge in a peaceful corner and only steps from the main strip and the bus and train station. I was happy with my stay and would recommend it if you don't mind a smaller room. Mine was compact but cleverly laid out, with a clean, sleek look that blended modern and traditional styles, and a very comfortable bed. The halls and reception are a bit dark, and staff weren't always around, though they were helpful when I called. Amenities are standard, nothing special compared with other hotels I've visited in Japan, but complimentary tea or coffee in the morning was a nice touch.
