The staff were friendly and spoke several languages, and the Japanese breakfast was delicious and thoughtfully made. It’s a convenient base, a short walk from the bus stop, with nature walks, hot springs and Hakone’s main sights within easy reach, including the pirate ship cruise and ropeway. My room had traditional tatami mats and shoji doors, plus a private toilet. I loved catching a glimpse of Mt. Fuji at sunrise through the screens. The onsen was clean and intimate, with mountain views, and a lovely way to unwind after exploring. The cozy ryokan-style hotel felt peaceful, tucked into the misty mountains of Sengokuhara.

We spent five nights here as a group of three, using a futon room advertised with a garden and mountain view. There wasn’t any mountain view from our room 🤪. It faced an intersection with a traffic light, so traffic noise bothered us in the evening and early morning. At 23kyen per night, it felt pricey for a room without a bathroom and only two chairs for three people, even allowing for the area being expensive. The TV with Chromecast was a nice feature. The shared onsen was clean and functional, but small, basic and rather dated. It wasn’t busy while we were there.

This wasn’t what I expected: the rooms were small, the bathroom was dirty, and there was no private bathroom. The shower and bath were communal. We also had to reserve breakfast, lunch and dinner, but nothing was available, so we ended up going out to eat.

The rooms are clean, and you get a nice view of Mt. Fuji. The onsen works fine but has no view, and it can feel cramped during busy periods since the rooms have no showers or baths.

Staff were polite and helpful. After checkout I forgot my phone, and one of them hurried after me to bring it back. I’m very grateful for that. It was my first ryokan stay and I was really happy with it. From odawara st, it’s about 50 minutes on the Tozan (T) bus, getting off at Obako onsen iriguchi. The hotel provides a nice yukata, and there’s a warm onsen and communal bathroom. My room was clean, with a Fuji-san view, and the futon was comfortable. Early check-in is possible when the hotel isn’t too busy.
