Bears Den Mountain Lodge

Having the whole lodge to ourselves made Bears Den feel like home for our family’s 11-night January stay. It worked perfectly for two couples and five children. We could cook in the commercial kitchen and gather for dinner and a glass of wine in the huge dining area after skiing. All the bedrooms had ensuite bathrooms and big, comfortable beds, so everyone had privacy. It was the cleanest place we’ve ever stayed, absolutely immaculate. Lesley took a lot of stress out of the trip, from collecting us at the train station to sorting tips and ski passes. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble. Thanks, Lesley. We’ll be back, and we highly recommend it.

We all thought Bears Den was the best ski lodge in Goryu. It sits among lovely trees, away from traffic and noise, but the ski fields and restaurants are still close. There’s a free daily shuttle, and the main ski area is walkable. After skiing, you can even make your way home through the trees. The snow was incredible and there was heaps of it, though it wasn’t as cold as it had been for us in Hokkaido. It felt like a real luxury at a reasonable price. Our family of six adults and five children came from Australia and had the whole lodge for a week of skiing last Dec 24/25, during a three-week Japan trip. The five bedrooms were spacious, each with a comfortable bed and its own bathroom. We cooked breakfast and dinner on the nights we stayed in, using the fully equipped commercial kitchen and upstairs dining area. The kids had a jacuzzi and games room with Netflix. Lesley was wonderful. She picked us up at the bus station, drove us shopping, suggested places to eat, and helped us in plenty of other ways. We had a fabulous time and hope to return one day.

Lesley was a lovely host, and the rooms were spotless and well equipped. Bears Den had everything our two families needed for a fabulous trip. We’ll be back!

We had such a great time at Bears Den and were looked after so well by our host throughout the stay. There’s room for the whole family, a fully equipped kitchen, an open fireplace, and even a jacuzzi. It’s right by Hakuba’s best snow mountain. We loved it.
