Our pug gets such a warm welcome at Canadian Village Goryu, which is a big part of why we came back for a second stay. The family who runs the place are kind and attentive, and the whole place feels more like coming home than checking into a hotel. They really are pet lovers. Breakfast is included, and Okasan makes it herself with so much care. We love every bite. After a long day, the onsen is a lovely way to unwind, and the spacious, cozy bedrooms have very comfortable beds. The view outside is breathtaking, like a painting. For dinner, we always eat at their restaurant, Canadatei. For us, it's the best in Hakuba Goryu, and everything on the menu is exceptional. We treasure these stays as family memories and already look forward to returning to Hakuba. ❤️

Kaneda-tei, the owner's teppanyaki restaurant downstairs, was a real treat. It seemed popular with foreign visitors, and the smell of Wagyu beef in the evenings was wonderful. We also had the okonomiyaki, which was delicious. The guesthouse is very close to Hakuba Goryo Ski Resort and Hiyori Ski Equipment Shop, and it had a warm, home-like feel. The landlady made Japanese and Western-style breakfasts herself each day and was very welcoming, even though my Japanese is limited. Our room was roomy and comfortable, with three beds, a sofa, wardrobe, and table, so my friend and I could spread out our suitcases. I skipped the shared bathhouse, but my friends went daily. The men's bath had a tub and plenty of hot water in the evenings, which helped after skiing. One small downside: the wooden cabins creak when you walk, so going to the bathroom at night felt awkward in case we woke someone. Still, I'd choose this place again if I drove to Wulong Ski Resort.

These pictures are from my December 2013 visit. I was glad to get out and enjoy the snow nearby. Staying here also turned me into a big Leonberger fan, and now I'm a "Berger mom." The teppanyaki at Kanadatei was tasty too!
