The staff were a real highlight, friendly, helpful, and fluent in English. The hotel has 18 rooms across five floors, with a pizza place upstairs and a rental shop on the ground floor. Our room was dated but clean and roomy, and the bed and Tencel pillow were especially comfortable. From the room we could see Happo-One. Housekeeping came every other day. It’s about a five-minute walk to Nakiyama slopes and ten minutes to the Happo-One gondola. Ski gear rental is included, and there are lockers and a changing area by the level one lift lobby. Laundry machines are available, though the dryer takes at least 1-2 hours. Parking out front is very limited. I was told a space would be held when I booked, but there wasn’t one when I arrived.

The mountain view from our room was breathtaking, and the staff made the stay even better. Everyone was friendly and helpful, especially at the front desk, where they shared useful information about hakuba that added a lot to our holiday. The building is old, but the hotel was spotless and our room was well looked after. The team clearly worked hard to make sure guests had a pleasant stay.

Getting around was easy thanks to Rob, Ryuki and Norbert. The drivers were lovely and made trips to the other mountains hassle free. The front desk staff were also helpful with lots of information, and housekeeping kept our room in great shape. hakuba gateway hotel is right in town and very close to the Happo-One gondola. We had a great stay and would happily recommend it.

I was in the middle of a panic attack, and Chantelle, Clara, Fiona and Steph were so kind and did everything they could to help. I can’t thank them enough for the care and effort they showed. Please pass on my thanks to them. Without their help, my Japan holiday would have been very different. I’m grateful to them and the whole staff.

The balcony had fantastic views, and the place had everything we needed. The location was hard to beat, and we had a great stay. The hospitality from the women at reception was wonderful.
