Breakfast was filling and delicious every morning, with traditional Japanese dishes that set us up for skiing. Lodge Yamajiu sits right beside the Iwatake ski field, and Noriko-san arranged pick-ups and drop-offs when we arrived and checked out for an extra fee. The communal shower area was clean and roomy. It's a third-generation traditional minshuku, and we really enjoyed staying there. We were well looked after and hope it does well in the future.

Yamajiu, thank you! My friends and I had a comfortable stay in traditional rooms, and the owners were so kind. There’s a dry room for ski gear, plus we got a 50% off rental voucher for a quality shop below the slopes. When our stay ended, the owner even drove us to our next stop.

The drying room and storage were handy, and there are work benches if you want to do some maintenance. We also loved the food, and the rooms were cosy with clean bathrooms. It’s a humble, family-run traditional Japanese place. Everyone we passed in the hallways greeted us or smiled and bowed, which was kind since our Japanese is pretty poor. Our stay in Japan was humbling. Thank you to everyone at Lodge Yamajyuu.

The food is the biggest draw for me. It's made with care, very filling, and the handmade soba is a real treat. I'd honestly eat here instead of going to a restaurant in Hakuba. The inn has a great atmosphere, with a fireplace, a drying room, and a waxing space that are especially useful for skiers and snowboarders. I come back for about 10 days every year and am always happy with my stay. The spot at the foot of Iwatake Ski Resort is perfect and easy to reach, and the hot springs are just a three-minute walk away. I'll stay here again whenever I'm in Hakuba.

For dinner at a guesthouse, the handmade soba is surprisingly good. It has a nice firm bite but still goes down smoothly. Amazing noodles!
