Wakata Lodge Hakuba

The receptionist was always ready to help whenever we had a question or needed anything, and the staff were all very friendly and spoke a range of languages. There were useful extras too, including an ice maker, vending machine, laundry, coffee machine, hot water dispenser, microwave, and board games. Our rooms were bigger than expected, with lots of storage. We stayed three nights. They picked us up from the station, and you can message them on WhatsApp. Breakfast was included, and transport to and from the bus terminal was easy and free. The sukiyaki dinner was amazing, with delicious meat. I'd highly recommend staying here for the service.

There aren't any shopping malls nearby, but the free shuttle to the ski resort, supermarket, or ski equipment shop makes getting around really easy. The room was spacious and comfortable, and after skiing it was so relaxing to come back to the hotel and soak in the onsen. The view of the Japanese Alps from the window is absolutely stunning.

For around 21,000 JPY, I didn't feel the stay was worth the cost. The biggest issue was the onsen area, which was quite dirty, and the water was very cold. There's no private bathroom in the room, so you have to use the onsen. Other things to know: there's free parking across the street with space for about 5-6 cars, and no elevator. Eating and drinking aren't allowed in the rooms, so you have to use the common area. The bedroom windows face east and have no curtains, so morning sun shines in brightly. For this price in Hakuba, there are better options, and I'd suggest looking elsewhere.
