I lost a huge amount of money after entering the wrong date on Agoda. I noticed the mistake within 10 minutes, while payment processing through Agoda was delayed, and tried everything I could, but the hotel ultimately refused to help. This was presented as a non-refundable product, and simple corrections such as changing the dates or payment method weren’t possible, even though I hadn’t made a mistake with the payment method. The non-refundable option wasn’t triggered, and the period when the money couldn’t be transferred is considered illegal in many countries because it infringes on consumers’ refund rights. A refund or even a partial refund could have let the hotel resell the room in the short time left and earn more. It was a short-sighted, foolish decision. Both Agoda and the hotel have abandoned their core business. Agoda’s payment page has become even more vicious over the past few years, inviting mistakes. It feels like a lodging-only phishing scam targeting seniors, with the details about when payment will be finalized tucked below and off to the side of the payment button while pop-ups keep asking you to pay.
