Ki no Saji made a lovely quiet getaway in southern Kyushu. We wanted somewhere remote and close to the Kaimondake hiking area, and the views were even prettier than the listing photos. The house was just as described, and the kitchen had everything we needed for the groceries we brought to cook our meals. Our hosts answered all our questions ahead of time and took great care of us during the stay. I’d highly recommend Ki no Saji.

My favorite part was getting up early, having coffee, and looking out at the horizon. The balcony also gives you sunrise on the left and sunset dropping toward Mt. Kaimon, which felt like such a luxury. At night, the ocean is so close you can hear the waves as you fall asleep and wake up. The kitchen and barbecue set made it easy to grill dinner while watching the sea, then head inside for shochu, local sashimi, and chicken sashimi. There’s a balcony, hammock, loft, and other things kids will enjoy, so it works really well for families. The whole experience felt hard to find even at overseas resorts. I hope others get to enjoy it too.

The room was clean and lovely. The weather kept us from seeing the stars, but we were treated to a beautiful rainbow the next morning.

I came in late September and left feeling so glad I’d made the trip. Living in the middle of a city, I never expected to spend time gazing at the sea and listening to the waves. Mount Kaimon nearby was magnificent, and at night the sky was full of stars. I even saw the Milky Way. It was a real chance to clear my head. This is a private villa rental, kept in great condition, with almost all the dishes and seasonings provided. We bought our own meals, and the owner pointed us to local supermarkets and fish shops. The fish shop’s sashimi was delicious. We slept on beds upstairs and downstairs, with the sound of the waves around us. Breakfast in the second-floor dining room overlooking the sea sounds especially nice, though maybe that’s why there’s no TV. You can also bathe while looking out at the sea, but there’s nothing to see at night. For access, take the road on the ocean side. Parking along the seaside road may be the safest choice. I’d like to visit again someday.

It was such a nice place, with an owner couple whose friendly personalities really came through. The room was clean and cared for, and the wooden floor felt great underfoot. You can see the sea from the bath, which was lovely, and the second floor was plenty of space for two. There’s no TV upstairs, but I think that helped us unwind. After the rain, we had a wonderful view of the sea and Yakushima Island in the distance while enjoying hot pot in the cool room. We couldn’t find the single burner for the pot and ended up using our own, though there were plenty of other kitchen tools and dishes.
