The room was comfortable and quite large, more like an apartment, and the facilities were good. The guest house felt clean, safe, and private. There’s a shared deck and garden at the back where you can see the stars beautifully, and a little beach less than a minute away, practically in the garden. The owners were so welcoming and kind. They shared lots about the island, its nature and animals, and gave us advice, activity leaflets, and information about discounts. They even spoke some English. As a vegetarian, I really appreciated the thoughtful, delicious meals they prepared for me. They also pointed us to a nearby vegan restaurant that was amazing. Getting there and around can be tricky without a rental car. There’s a bus stop close by, but buses only run a few times a day. I’d happily come back. Thanks so much for having us over the New Year holidays!

At Annsea, Abe and his wife made us feel incredibly welcome and gave us plenty of recommendations that helped us enjoy Ishigaki. Abe clearly loves nature, and we had great conversations with him about the local wildlife and fish we’d spotted on the reef he recommended. One night, he even took us into the forest to see fireflies. The guesthouse was clean and felt safe and secure. It has a great deck, and the private beach is just a two-minute walk away. I’d recommend Annsea to anyone staying in Ishigaki.

The man was very kind, while the woman only seemed friendly on the surface. When she was helping me book a nearby restaurant, I heard her use the word "Joseonjing." She looked to be in her fifties, so I felt she must know it’s a derogatory term for Koreans. It was a bizarre experience: they laughed in front of me, then cursed behind my back.
