There’s plenty nearby even if you don’t have a car: the base and restaurants are close, and 7-11 and a grocery store are a three-minute walk away. I’ve stayed at R9 Iwakuni several times and find the location excellent. Each guest gets one meal ticket per day for a frozen microwave meal, with options like curry rice, yakisoba, fried rice, and others. It’s a nice way to have a meal taken care of. I bring my computer, HDMI cable, and mouse to use the TV, since otherwise it only has Japanese programming. Two small annoyances: there’s a mild bathroom smell that seems to come from the plumbing or pipes, and it may not be fixable. Also, the entrance mats are dirty and should be washed or replaced occasionally.

The location near USMC station was convenient, and it was quiet with comfortable beds. My room had a fridge and microwave, and we got vouchers for two frozen meals to heat up. Free coffee and tea were available too. It was very clean, and I truly enjoyed my stay.

It’s close to the base and a convenience store, but they won’t let you check in after 11pm. If travel delays mean you arrive later, you lose whatever you paid for the booking. I called the customer service number on the door, and they basically said "that sucks." They refused both to refund me and to give me the code for the room I’d paid for because it was past 11pm. Very disappointing.
