The room had a strange smell, and we found several things that didn’t work: the door wouldn’t lock, the hair dryer was broken, and the shower kept switching between hot and cold. We were given a small ground-floor room that didn’t match the booking photos. This was the worst guesthouse I stayed in on my trip to Japan, and it felt like little more than somewhere to sleep. We hadn’t booked this room at first because the one we originally reserved was being renovated, and nobody told us ahead of time. We waited until about half an hour after check-in before someone arrived and drove us to this place. After taking our payment, they left without saying anything. We had problems throughout the stay.

The rooms were adequate, though the bathroom was shared. The bigger issue was arrival: there was no reception, and the doors used codes, but the arrangements for our Booking.com reservation paid directly to Agoda hadn’t been handled. We couldn’t get in, and I waited outside for an hour before a manager we reached by phone finally came. Even though my card was registered, I was told to pay in cash. The reception process was very poorly managed, and I was really unhappy with how our arrival was handled. There were also mosquitoes, apparently because of the rice paddy right behind the hotel.
